Wind forecast for Athens & the Saronic Gulf
Aegina, Poros, Hydra and the Peloponnese coast: the sailing area on Athens’ doorstep, and one of the most sheltered in Greece. The Meltemi reaches it weaker than in the Cyclades, often as an afternoon north-easterly, and light sea breezes set the pattern on quieter days.
Passages out of the gulf towards the Cyclades cross open water where the Meltemi blows at full strength — check the forecast for the Kea channel before you go.

The summer north wind of the Aegean, strongest in July and August. It commonly blows force 5–7 for days on end, peaks in the afternoon and accelerates hard between islands and off capes. Plan passages south with it, and north early in the day.
