Wind forecast for Split & Central Dalmatia
Split is the busiest charter base in Croatia, with Brač, Hvar, Šolta and Vis all within a day’s sail. Summer usually brings a light morning land breeze and a reliable afternoon Maestral — ideal sailing. The weather to watch is the Bora, which can gust to gale force in the channels with little warning, and the Jugo, which builds a heavy sea from the south-east over a couple of days.
Anchorages on the south sides of Brač and Hvar are sheltered from the Bora but open to the Jugo, and the north sides the other way round. Check which is forecast before you choose tonight’s bay.

Local winds
Maestral from NW
The Adriatic summer sea breeze: a steady north-westerly that fills in late morning, blows force 3–5 through the afternoon and dies around sunset. The classic sailing wind of a charter week.
Bora from NE
Cold, dry north-easterly that falls off the mountains in violent gusts, often twice the mean wind. It can arrive within minutes under a clear sky, most often in winter but also in summer. Strongest close under high coast, calmer offshore.
Jugo (Scirocco) from SE
Warm, humid south-easterly that builds over a day or two, bringing cloud, rain and a long, heavy sea up the Adriatic. Harbours and anchorages open to the south-east become uncomfortable or dangerous.
