Wind forecast for Strait of Bonifacio
The strait between Corsica and Sardinia squeezes the Mistral and the westerlies into a funnel: the wind here is often 10 knots or more above what blows either side, with a short, steep sea when it runs against the current. The La Maddalena archipelago and southern Corsica have beautiful but exposed anchorages.

Local winds
Mistral from NW
Cold north-westerly funnelled down the Rhône valley into the Gulf of Lion. It can blow force 7–9 for several days under blue skies, with a short, steep sea. Strongest west of Toulon and through the Strait of Bonifacio.
Libeccio from SW
South-westerly that blows across a long open fetch onto western Corsica and the Tuscan coast, raising a big sea. Accelerates through the Strait of Bonifacio like the Mistral from the other side.
